Marat Safin, retirado del deporte desde 2009, fue elegido en la cámara baja del Parlamento (Duma) por cinco anos, donde representará al partido en el poder Rusia Unida, que preside Vladimir Putin. Recordamos que Safin gano el Abierto de Estados Unidos en 2000 y del Abierto de Australia en 2005. Aseguran que en unos 20 anos será el presidente.
Reflejando la claridad de pensamiento que lo llevo a esta decisión y las seguramente multiples iniciativas de las que será autor creo que vale la pena detenerse unos minutos a leer lo que el mismo Marat dice "Over the past two years my life has changed dramatically. I found myself in a situation where I needed to make really important decisions. It all started with one little thing, and it grew into something more. I could just advertise a particular party, but I'm not used to do so. I have long wondered whether I should go into politics. Now I have no doubt that I wanted to do it. In Over the next five years, I will work every day, sitting in the office and solving people's problems. I'm the same way as in tennis, there will be good days and bad. So I kind of feel like going to court."
Como vemos, hay vida después del tenis, y quien les dice que termine siendo un segundo Jon Tiriac, dueño de torneo, bancos y otras tantas cosillas aquí y allá.
